Review: Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation

Happy Thursday my lovely subscribers! Today I’m going to do a product review on Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation. I was so excited when Rihanna launched her beauty line at Sephora! I love Rihanna. Her music. Her style. Her sense of humor. Most importantly, her philantrophies. And now her makeup collection too.

But first, let me tell you about my skin type. I am a very very very oily gal. Yes, I drink a lot of water and yes, I do use an AM/PM moisturizer, so no … I don’t think I’m dehydrating my skin internally/externally. I am also sensitive and acne prone. I get break outs easily and have some acne scarring too. Which means that I have to be extra careful and selective on which products I use on my face!

Fenty Foundation

So, if you didn’t already know … The Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation is perfect for oily skin types. The consistency is quite runny, so you do have to shake the bottle a few times to mix the foundation before pumping it out. I love how there’s a pump, it makes it super hygenic. The pump also gives a nice dime size amount, so it allows you to control how much you can pump at a time. I like how the bottle is narrow. It fits nicely in my makeup bag without taking up a lot of space. It is medium to full coverage. It is buildable, so you can put as much or as little foundation as you need. There are 40 shades to choose from that ranges from lighter shades to deeper ones, with varying undertones such as cool, warm, and neutral. I am currently a perfect match to the shade #220 (warm peach). I am still a bit tan from all my summer adventures, so I do plan on picking up a lighter shade once my tan completely wears off.

Shade 220

I swatched the foundation a bit thick in this picture, so you can see it better. As you can imagine, the thin and almost runny condistency, makes it very easy to apply. It applies smoothly and evenly. It dries to a soft/demi matte finish, so it does not look powdery afterwards. It still gives you somewhat a bit of a dewy/glowing complexion, but not too much. It looks very natural and blends seamlessly into the skin. You do have to give it about a minute to settle down after applying though. Otherwise, you can easily rub off the foundation or “move it around” if you try to apply your setting powder on top of it right away. Furthermore, I really do believe that your primer and your setting powder plays a big role on how long this foundation will last and if it will end up cakey or not. I say this because, I have used this both on occasions with primer, as well as, without primer, and with a setting powder, and without one too. As a result, I find that using a mattifying primer with this and a regular setting powder (not the mattifying variety), gives the perfect finish that will hold up for at least 8 hours without touch ups (that’s a miracle for me, considering I usually get oily after about 2 hours and already needing to blot my face and reapply my powder). Furthermore, I really love how this foundation does not oxidize. I usually buy foundations 1 shade lighter than my perfect color, because of oxidation … but not with this foundation! Whew, thank heavens! It does not change the color of my face. It does not turn me orange like what some of my previous foundations did … So, two thumbs up for that!!! I actually think that this foundation looks better the longer you wear it. It doesn’t feel heavy on the skin at all. Once it’s on, its very light weight and it feels like you have nothing on your skin. Also, I am so happy this does not cause me any breakouts or allergic reactions, whatsoever!

Honestly, I don’t think this will be a good option for dry skin types though. I once had dry cheeks from allergies and even after moisturizing and prepping my skin really well, once the foundation had the chance to set … my dry cheeks were further emphasized and a part of my cheeks that had a little bit of a flaky patch, became even more obvious. However, I don’t get dry cheeks/flaky patches all that often, so fortunately, I can use this foundation and recommend it to my fellow oily/acne prone/sensitive skin type gals too! Hip hip horray!

My overall rating for this foundation would be 4 out of 5 “stars” 🙂 In a nut shell, below are my pro’s and con’s:

PROS:

  • you will be able to find your perfect shade
  • it has a soft/demi matte finish
  • it is medium to full coverage
  • it is buildable coverage
  • it applies evenly and smoothly
  • it does not have a strong fragnance
  • the consistency is pretty thin and easy to work with
  • it feels light weight and like you are not wearing any foundation
  • it does not break me out
  • it does not oxidize and change colors after awhile
  • I like that it has a pump
  • I like that it is a narrow bottle

CONS:

  • its not as “affordable”, it is $34.00 per bottle
  • it can accentuate dry skin and flaky patches
  • it takes awhile for it to dry after application

I hope that this review had helped you. All in all, I love the Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation, and I really recommend it to anyone who have an oily skin. I will definitely repurchase this foundation once I run out of my current bottle. I will also try the other Fenty Beauty products in the near future. If you have tried this foundation or any of the products within the Fenty Beauty makeup collection, I want to know your thoughts too! Until next time …

Yours truly,

Ana
