Healthy Avocado Smoothie Recipe

Today I want to share with y’all a super quick, easy, healthy, and affordable recipe for a delicious and filling avocado smoothie.

I actually have a funny story about avocados … When I was growing up, I only knew how to eat avocados two ways. One, would be when my mom would scoop out avocados (yes, they were chunky pieces), put it in a bowl and mix it with ice, milk, and sugar, then she’d give us a spoon and tell us to dig in! Yes, you heard me right … My brother and I would eat the avocado “smoothie” off a bowl, how cute right? She didn’t even use a blender at the time, but I still thought it was delicious! The second way, was when I would buy “ice candy” at the sari-sari store down the street from my house (in the Philippines) and one of my favorite flavors at the time was the avocado ice candy. If you don’t know what ice candies are … Well, they are basically “smoothies” made out of different flavors (like coconut, red beans, ube, buko pandan, etc) and put inside a really skinny plastic and frozen. Then when you are ready to eat them, you’d bite off one of the bottom corners of the ice candy and eat it like a popsicle! Sounds fun right? It was such a treat on a hot day! Actually, it wasn’t until we moved to America that we found out most people ate avocado in savory ways (like adding it to salads, sandwiches, or turning it into guacamole) instead of as a dessert like we did! True story.

Anyway, this recipe is inspired by my mom’s “avocado bowl”, except you’ll be needing a blender for this one. Hahaha!

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole Avocado
  • 8-10 pieces of Ice cubes
  • 1 cup of Milk
  • 2 tablespoons of Sugar

Directions:

  1. Wash your avocado and cut it in half, then remove seed.
  2. Spoon your avocado into your blender.
  3. Add milk, ice cubes, and sugar.
  4. Blend until homogenous and all the ice cubes have dissolved.
  5. Serve in a tall glass and enjoy!

See, that wasn’t so bad yeah? In less than 3 minutes, you’ll have a very healthy and filling drink that you can take on-the-go or just enjoy it at home. Every time I drink this, I never feel guilty or sluggish afterwards. Try it for yourself!
